Job Description:
The Epic Cache Manager is primarily responsible for implementing database strategies and solutions and provides database support for Epic Cache and Clarity / SQL database development/applications for EMR.  Leads design, configuration, installation, maintenance, monitoring, backup, and data integrity of all EMR databases connecting / interfacing the electronic health records.

Responsibilities include:

  • Install and upgrade server software and install/configure Database Management System (DBMS)
  • Troubleshoot system environments and manage technical action logs to resolve issues with Database Management System (DBMS) software and provide outage resolution support; monitor for recurring database issues, and maintain database to ensure data integrity
  • Maintain Client’s Connect Environment Strategy to ensure appropriate redundancy exists between production and non-production environments and that the environments are synchronized
  • Develop/maintain/participate in disaster recovery plans
  • Manage, monitor, and troubleshoot servers running EMR software
  • Apply database best practices, including troubleshooting skills and experience to insure that Enterprise data is available to systems and customers at all times
  • Accountable for ensuring that databases are available, backed up regularly and able to be restored
  • Maintain the UNIX Operating system running the EMR software
  • Install necessary patches and Epic SUs to effect database and EMR changes and requirements.  This includes analysis, design, coding, testing, implementing, training and documentation as needed to complete the request
  • This will also include changes for projects being worked on by other staff members

Job Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering or similar field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Two years (2) demonstrated experience with UNIX-AIX database administration and one (1) year Cache-SQL database administration
  • Must successfully pass EPIC Certification within two (2) attempts- Cache Systems Manager
  • AIX 6.1 – Installation, setup, tuning, administration and monitoring
  • AIX LVM –be able to maintain disk environment for current and future needs (in conjunction with the Storage Administrator)
  • PowerHA –be able to configure, test and maintain PowerHA to ensure proper failovers
  • MS SQL database design, configuration, administration and monitoring
  • Working knowledge of the Power7 series and HMC Epic Cache DBA –working knowledge of maintaining database free space, Cache process monitoring, environment refreshes, Epic backup scripts, integrity checking, journaling, Cache shadow (and Epic’s implementation of it for RO and DR), SU installations, Red Alert
